A Litany for Fathers                                                                                   Led by Rev. Poti

(The Congregation will respond by reading the bold italicized print.)

For our fathers, who have given us life and love,

that we may show them respect and love,

   we pray to the Lord...

For fathers who have lost a child through death,

that their faith may give them hope,

and their family and friends support and console them,

   we pray to the Lord...

For men, though without children of their own,

who like fathers have nurtured and cared for us,

   we pray to the Lord...

For fathers, who have been unable to be a source of strength,

who have not responded to their children

and have not sustained their families,

   we pray to the Lord...

God, in your wisdom and love you made all things.

Bless the men of the church, that they may be strengthened to do your will.

Let the example of their faith and love shine forth.

Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor them always.

Grant this through Christ our Lord.  Amen.

the compassion of Jesus Christ enfold you,

and possibilities created by the Holy Spirit grow within you.

Prayer of Confession and Words of Assurance                                          Led by Rev. Poti

O God, our refuge, cover us now.
Protect us from the glaring sun, the blasting rain, and the gale-like winds.
Forgive us for the many times we stray from your foundation,
and wander away from the cover of your love.
Forgive us when we build our lives on beliefs that shift,
and on priorities that are like quicksand.
Offer your saving hand, that we may walk away from treacherous places
and live in the safety of your love.
Help us trust the foundation of your ways, and that love will survive
even the stormiest waters of life.
In the name of Christ, the rock of our faith, we pray.  Amen.

Prayer of Confession                                                                                   Led by Rev. Poti

Leader:  Lord Jesus Christ, you warned us of the dangers of making social status,

wealth, or reputation priorities in our lives, and we confess how easily

our lives can become enmeshed in such worldly values.  We know that the

pursuit of such values leads to needless worry and anxiety, yet we get caught up

in the fear that we will have too little money or security in the future.  You

remind us that the lilies of the field are not obsessed with work or worries,

yet God makes them beautiful.  Grow our trust in God’s care for us

and help us to weave that trust into the fabric of our lives.
              Embrace
